My blog income has surpassed my wildest expectations. I never thought that I would’ve been able to make money online at all when I first started blogging. I’ve always wanted to make money blogging, but I didn’t know where to start, so I spent months reading income reports from other bloggers.
I’ve been blogging for over a year now, but I started making a full time income 6 months into my journey.
I wrote my first blog income report here, and so much has changed since then. The changes that I’ve made to my blog since my last income report are the reasons why my blogging income has increased significantly. I’ll go through each change that I made to my blogging technique in the steps below, so keep reading.
Change #1 – My Hosting Plan
When I first started my blog, I purchased the basic plan from Bluehost for $2.95 a month. This is an excellent hosting plan to start out with, and if you’re a brand new blogger then I highly recommend that you go with this plan.
As my traffic started to grow, I noticed the server that blog was hosted on couldn’t handle the large amounts of traffic coming in on a daily basis. My blog would experience tons of downtime due to the server being overloaded from large amounts of traffic.
I contacted the customer support representatives at Bluehost, and they helped me upgrade my blog to a hosting plan that can handle tons of traffic! It only took a few hours for my hosting plan to update, and the good people at Bluehost took care of all of the technical stuff. If you are a new blogger, I suggest that you sign up for the prime plan instead of the basic. Choosing the prime plan will give you way more website space and bandwidth, plus your website server will be better equipped for handling a lot of traffic. Going with a prime plan when you first start your blog will save you a headache!
Why is Bluehost the best choice?
The best part of my hosting plan is all of the free things that came with it! Here are a few things you’ll receive for FREE when you sign up with Bluehost:
- Free domain name
- Free SSL Certificate
- Easy WordPress Installation
Change #2 – My Pinning Strategy
Another thing that I’ve changed about my blogging technique since my last income report was my pinning strategy. I no longer use BoardBooster to schedule my pins, because I came across an ebook that completely changed the way that I pinned to group boards on Pinterest.
I learned how to start manually pinning my pins to boards on Pinterest from Pinteresting Strategies by Carly from Mommy on Purpose.
Carly explains every detail of the manual pinning strategy in her ebook, but I did a little tweaking to it to make it more suitable for me. If you want to learn more about the manual pinning strategy that changed my blog forever, click here to check it out!
The moment I started manually pinning to group boards at certain times during the day, my page views increased from 6,000 page views to 120,000 page views in a month!
Change #3 – My Blog Theme
I gave my blog a makeover. I went with a peach color theme because it’s my favorite, and it’s really easy on the eyes. You can find beautiful themes at affordable prices on Themeforest. A beautiful blog design is essential if you want to make money with your blog. Make your blog stand out from the crowd by playing around with different colors and images.
Change #4 – How I Create My Pins
As of recently, I’ve noticed an increase of competition within my blog niche. Since there is an increase in competition, I have to find ways to make my pins stand out from the rest of pins. I still use Picmonkey to create collage pins, but I invested in a Photoshop subscription to apply some of my graphic design skills to a few of my pins. Here is an example of one of the pins that I’ve made Photoshop:
This pin went viral and brought in a consistent amount of visitors from Pinterest for months. It stands out on the feed and it’ll catch your eye (which is what you want!)
Change #5 – My Mindset
You’ll never get anywhere in life if you have a negative outlook on things. I had to tell myself this over and over. Once I started to believe in my blog, my blog started to take off like a spaceship! There were times when I wanted to give up, but I kept going because I knew that things would get better if I just kept working at it. I stopped comparing my blog to other blogs and primarily focused on putting out the best content for my readers. If you stay focused, you can succeed at blogging.
I never thought that I could make money blogging, but I I have made a full time income from my blog in less than a year! The changes that I have made to my blog have completely revamped my blog in a huge way. If you haven’t started your blog yet, I hope that I have inspired you to start a money making blog today!
